Top attractions in Kannapolis, NC

Over the years, Kannapolis has emerged as one of the best cities to live in Northern Carolina. It has so much going on!

You like motorsports? A part of Kannapolis’ history is intertwined with that. Love music? There’s something here for you, too. Craving for a glass of good wine? There’s a nearby vineyard to satiate your thirst. And all these are just the tip of the iceberg.

I want you to know and experience this city I’ve come to love. So, here are some of my favorite attractions in Kannapolis, NC.

  1. The Dale Trail

Lovers of NASCAR know all about Kannapolis and hold the town in very high regard. That’s because it’s the home of Dale Earnhardt, one of the country’s racing legends. In his honor, a memorial was built to immortalize his life and times.

To follow Dale Earnhardt’s rise to motorsports stardom, go on a self-guided tour of the Dale Trail and see some of the city’s sights in the process.

  2. Curb Museum for Motorsports and Music

Another treat for NASCAR lovers is the Curb Museum of Motorsports and Music. Established and owned by Mike Curb, a music and motorsports enthusiast, this 20,000-square foot museum houses an array of exhibits that will take you on a trip down music and NASCAR history.

The piece de resistance of Curb Museum, however, are the race cars on display: Dale Earnhardt’s #2 that helped him win his first-ever Winston Cup and Richard Petty’s #43, which took him to his 199th Winston Cup championship.

  3. Village Park

One of the best ways to spend a beautiful sunny day in Kannapolis is to hang out at the 16-acre Village Park. There are a variety of recreational amenities here, such as the splash pad, the amphitheater, and the walking trail.

Village Park is especially happening every summer, with an array of activities scheduled throughout the season. The main attraction, however, is the “Concerts in the Park” series, a string of free community events featuring great local acts.

  4. Douglas Vineyards

Take a break from the city scenery and enjoy a glass of good wine at Douglas Vineyards, a family-owned winery that specializes in muscadine and sweet fruit wines. Some of their bestsellers include Wicked Watermelon, Pomegranate Punch, and Apple Sauce.

I recommend joining one of their wine tastings, especially if you’re unfamiliar with sweet fruit wines. If you’re more of a traditionalist, Douglas Vineyards also offers an array of dry wines.

  5. North Carolina Music Hall of Fame

Did you know that North Carolina is also home to a great number of celebrated music acts? You can find homegrown music legends like Nina Simone, Donna Fargo, and Thelonious Monk at North Carolina’s Music Hall of Fame. Free to the public, the facility offers a fully interactive and immersive experience through a number of state-of-the-art exhibits showcasing North Carolina’s rich musical heritage.

Check out the latest inductees to the Music Hall of Fame, which include Chris Daughtry of American Idol fame, here.
